The Benefits of Hiring a Sharepoint Consultant [The Truth]

Last Updated on July 3, 2022

Are you debating on whether or not to hire a SharePoint consultant?

Well, I know even without my clients telling me that they must have thought about this question once or twice.

In this article, I’ll share with you the truth about the benefits of hiring a SharePoint consultant and whether or not it’s worth the investment.

Let’s get started.

What are the roles and responsibilities of a SharePoint consultant?

Before we get further, let’s be clear about SharePoint consultants first:

A SharePoint consultant is responsible for assisting organizations in the effective use of Microsoft’s SharePoint platform.

They must have a deep understanding of the software and are able to provide guidance on how to best leverage its features to meet the needs of the organization.

Though not required, a SharePoint consultant can help with the development and deployment of SharePoint solutions.

So yes, SharePoint consultants are a little different than SharePoint developers — though it’s always important to hire the best ones you can afford.

What are the benefits of hiring a SharePoint consultant?

Now, let’s talk about the benefits you will get when you hire a consultant:

    1. More time and cost savings in the long run

I put this one first here since what matters, in the end, is the bargain — how much you’re getting vs how much you’re spending.

The truth is that SharePoint consultants can get expensive. I don’t want to tell you otherwise because the quality of work is important here.

But if you’re looking at the big picture, consultants can actually save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

In fact, if you ask me, the time alone and the productivity it brings pays more already than the initial cost.

If you decide to hire developers, consultants can help you lower the development and deployment costs by getting clear on what needs to be done.

This brings me to my next point…

    2. Getting a clear idea about using SharePoint

If you tried developing SharePoint sites yourself, then you get the hang of how expansive it can get and loads of features available.

Not to mention if you think about how SharePoint integrates with other Microsoft 365 apps…

If you’re already paying for SharePoint, you might as well enjoy its full capacity — like what web parts, third-party tools, and other developments are possible.

It’s even better if you’re new to SharePoint and you have some (wild) imagination about what you want to achieve with the platform.

    3. Keeping up with updates and developments

    SharePoint is evolving:

A few years back, we were all enjoying the classic experience. Now, the modern experience has made “most” things better!

Classic sites now look ancient, which pushes organizations to adapt and create new modern sites that look good even on mobile.

That’s only one example of what I mean. Without consultants, you will continually spend more productive hours (which translates to money) figuring out SharePoint.

    4. Custom workflows and solutions

    I mentioned this a little above…

But if you need custom workflows and solutions, it will take you a lot of time if you go the do-it-yourself route.

And there’s no assurance that you will get what you want in the end.

So why not leave it to the experts? Whether the consultants will develop the solution themselves, at least you will know what to do and how much it might cost.

    5. Spend less and get more in training

Do you spend money on training your employees on how to use SharePoint?

Unfortunately, if you hired the wrong guy, then that’s already a blow on the budget as well as on the productivity hours of your employees.

Now, not everyone in your organization needs to know how to use SharePoint perfectly. You just need a few key people who can train others as you go.

When you hire a SharePoint consultant, you’re investing in better and more direct training from a hands-on in-the-know expert without cutting any corners.

Do you need a SharePoint consultant?

    Now, if you’re confident that:

    • You can create custom solutions by yourself
    • You can use the system at its best without wasting time
    • Your company can run without you spending time in it
    • The training your employees are getting is top-notch

Then you might not need a consultant after all. But if it’s the opposite, then hiring a SharePoint consultant is your best option.
